Angela S. Duncan, PhD, previously served as the Associate Dean for Diversity Equity and Inclusion and Assistant Professor in the College of Health Professions.
Dr. Duncan is an advocate for diversity and inclusive excellence in health care and a champion for health equity in reducing health disparities in marginalized and underserved communities. Her professional interests include examining the influence of cultural beliefs and spirituality in healthcare and end-of-life, coping with chronic illness, and interdisciplinary patient/client centered care.
Dr. Duncan has served in various roles at VCU and VCU Health, previously as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Community Engagement, Interim Chair for the Department of Patient Counseling, Manager of Bereavement Services, and Chaplain for the Pauley Heart Center.
Prior to VCU and VCU Health, her professional experience includes management consulting in healthcare information technology, medical and hospital practice management technology, and product assurance and quality engineering in both the automobile and aerospace industries. She has served on various for-profit and nonprofit boards in the areas of health and human service, finance, education, television, and religion.
She holds a B.S. (Zoology/Chemistry) from Howard University, M.Div. from Union Presbyterian Seminary, and M.S. (Patient Counseling) and Ph.D. (Health Related Sciences) from Virginia Commonwealth University.
